Antrim Council
The Burnside River Walk and Park has been transformed into a vibrant, accessible green space featuring revitalised trails, shared-use paths for walkers and cyclists, improved landscaping, new seating and picnic areas, outdoor learning zones, and upgraded interpretation panels. The park now offers two scenic routes—a 0.5 km lower trail and a 0.7 km upper trail—providing options suitable for gentle walks or longer routes while supporting rich opportunities for wildlife observation. These enhancements, delivered by Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council and funded through the Recovery Small Settlements Regeneration Programme, were guided architecturally by Rolston Architects.

As part of the wider improvement project, PurpleSheep redesigned the entire wayfinding system, introducing a new map layout supported by custom iconography for the legend, an illustrated map style incorporating textures and patterns, and integrated photography of local wildlife to strengthen the educational and interpretive value of the signage. This refreshed visual language sits alongside new and upgraded interpretation panels installed throughout the park, helping visitors navigate intuitively while enriching their understanding of the environment. Together, these wayfinding upgrades complement the council’s environmental improvements and create a cohesive, accessible, and engaging visitor experience across the renewed Burnside Trail.
